Flag Football Belt Loop on Monday!!

Monday's Den Meeting is once again at the Keller Greenbelt! We'll gather at 6:30pm and do our best to wrap it up by 7:30. If anyone has a football and wants to bring it, that would be great. We've got flags, but we'll probably want to limit the players on field so if we've got a couple extra balls we can drill some kids while others play. I'll have water for folks.

NEXT Monday, May 10, is our trip to the exotic animal clinic in Gilbert (thank you Jon Kempiak for setting this up). PLEASE RSVP to me at tkeller@ij.org to let me know that you plan to attend. I'll send out details mid-week (address and directions).

Our last Den Meeting of the year will be on May 17, again at the Keller Greenbelt. This will be an ice cream social (we'll provide the treats) and we will also hold a "parent meeting" to discuss summer activities, how you could serve the Pack by working on one of the committees next year, and just a little bit about how the Den Meetings will be changing next year--for the better. Don't miss out!

A Special Recognition

The Pack took a moment to recognize a very special Scout for his heroic pool-side actions. Carson Stork selflessly dove into a pool to rescue a little girl who was struggling to stay above water. When he reached her, he calmly flipped her over so that her head was facing up, then he slipped his arm underneath her and swam her to the stairs. What a brave Scout! And, um, what are the Storks feeding those boys? That's some serious hair on Carson's chest.

Color Guard

The Tigers were terrific tonight as they faithfully performed their Color Guard duties! Kudos to Jon and Earle for doing such a great job preparing them for their big night. Brayden and Kaydon made a wonderful team as they led their den in this very special ceremony. Way to go Tigers!

Pack Meeting Tonight! Tigers Doing Flag Ceremony Tonight

There is a Pack Meeting TONIGHT (Monday, April 26) at 7:00pm-8:00pm. at the Church. The Tigers will be serving as the Color Guard tonight! Jon and Earle and the Scouts have worked really hard to be ready for this honor. See you tonight!

What A Kick!

"Best Den Meeting Ever." That was how one parent described our totally awesome, high-flying, fast-paced, Kickball Belt Loop night! With the possible exception of "forgetting" where they were in line to kick, there was terrific sportsmanship all over the field. Kids were cheering each other on, kids were encouraging one another, and they were trying hard to learn new skills and work together as a team. We had so much fun, that we're currently planning on doing a Flag Football Belt Loop night for our May 3 Den Meeting--same time, same place. How does that sound?!!! We love our Scouts!!!

CANCELLED: Camp Raymond

Pack Leadership has officially cancelled the camp out this weekend. That means that nobody is driving up to Camp Raymond this weekend!

At Monday's Den Meeting, we discussed the possibility of trying to pull together a last minute "dens only" camp out. However, that is not feasible. The Grand Canyon Council requires permits to be pulled and requires leaders to have particular types of training that none of the current den leaders have gone through (especially if there is water nearby). However, we'll look into getting those trainings and planning something in the not-too-distant future (or finding someone who has the appropriate training and recruiting that person to come with us).

So, you've got some extra time with the family this weekend! Enjoy!

Kickball Belt Loop, Monday, April 19!

On Monday, April 19 we will earn our Kickball Belt Loops! We'll meet at the normal time, 6:30-7:30, but instead of the church we will meet at the Green Belt near the Keller house. No uniforms!

Directions from Church: Head North on Arizona Ave. past Queen Creek. Turn left on Canary. You've gone too far if you hit Ryan or Germann. You'll see the Green Belt immediately upon turning on Canary. You can take a right on Oregon and a left on Goldfinch. Park anywhere you want on Goldfinch. The Keller house will be open for emergency bathroom breaks. I'll bring over some water for Scouts and parents.

Sorry for the lateness of these details, but we hope to see everybody there!!

A Wonderful Opportunity to Serve

The Cub Scout theme for the month of April is "Service" and we have found a wonderful opportunity for our Scouts to make a difference and have a great time, too!! "A Party With A Purpose" will be on Saturday, April 10 from 2:00-4:30pm at Arrowhead Park in Chandler (On Erie Street between Alma School and Dobson, Erie is between Ray and Chandler Blvd.). There will be bunches of games set up for the kids to play--fun, active games based on the NBC-TV show "Minute to Win It". And, to get into the party, all you need to do is collect and bring some of the following items: non-perishable food, spare change or gently used clothing or household items. The non-perishable food will be donated to the United Food Bank; the spare change will be donated to Feeding America, which has a food kitchen in Mesa; and the clothing and household items will be donated to African refugee families living in the Valley who are starting over with nothing but a mattress.

If you are able to join in on the fun, even for just part of the party--please let Tim know as soon as possible. Come in uniform, ready to have fun and help out with some of the collections and activities. Bring the whole family and invite ALL your friends!! Everyone is welcome, the more, the better!!

If you are not able to come, but would still like to serve the community, please bring any of the above mentioned items to the next Den Meeting--which will be Monday, April 5, 6:30pm at First Baptist Church of Chandler. You can also invite your friends and tell them about this wonderful opportunity to serve the community.

I know it's short notice, but the Kellers are hoping to see many of you on the afternoon of Saturday April 10 at Arrowhead Park in Chandler!! Let us know you are coming so we can look for you!!

Spring Camp Out Update!

Okay, here are some details from tonight's Pack Meeting. The cost per family is $5. Every Scout needs an Informed Consent Agreement (ICA) filled out and turned in. I'll have copies of the ICA at the April 5 Den Meeting. It is most likely going to be COLD. Camp Raymond is an official Scout Camp, so there is the possibility of some pretty cool activities depending on weather. If you google "Camp Raymond Arizona" a link with a description of the camp should pop up. Dates for the Camp Out are April 23-25. That is a Friday-Sunday.

If you haven't already told me that you are considering/planning to attend, please shoot me an e-mail at tkeller@ij.org and let me know. Details about specific camp activities (like hikes, etc...) will be forthcoming. Look for an e-mail from Jim Malinksi.

See you at Monday's Pack Meeting!

7pm-8pm at First Baptist Church of Chandler (our typical meeting place). If you plan to attend the April 23-25 Camp Out you should attend the Pack Meeting (and I sure hope that everybody is at least considering the Camp Out, it is going to be a total blast)!

There is a Pack Meeting on Monday, March 29! Start time is 7:00pm. End time is 8:00pm. Location is First Baptist Church, as usual.

If you are considering attending the Spring Campout, you should try to attend this Pack Meeting. I am assuming (though I do not know for sure) that Pack Leadership will give us some details about the Campout.

Spring Hike is Next Saturday!!

You should have received an e-mail from Jim Malinski with all of the details for next Saturday's optional Spring Hike! Rather than retype all of the details here (cut and paste function is acting up), if you did not receive the e-mail from Jim please let me know and I will send you the e-mail. Sounds like the Storks are planning to attend. Kellers are 50/50 at this point. But it sounds like it'll be a great hike!

Lights, Crewmen, Action!

We owe a big THANK YOU to the brave men and women who work hard to keep our community safe and that come to our rescue in times of crisis! The crew of fire engine 215 treated us to a wonderful tour of their home: Gilbert Fire Station 1. The highlight of our evening was when the ladder crew rolled out their 82,000 lbs. truck and rolled out its 150 foot tall ladder! We did not get to say thank you to our two tour guides, Paul and Jason, because they were called away just as our tour was wrapping up. But we are glad such good men are on the job!
P.S. All the Scouts who participated in the tour will receive a cool Fire Station Visit patch at an upcoming den meeting (probably in April) or maybe, just maybe, at the March Pack Meeting. Thanks parents! You guys are awesome for supporting scouting!

March 1st Den Meeting at 5pm at Gilbert Fire Station!

Our next Den Meeting is TOMORROW, March 1st, from 5pm to 6pm at Gilbert Fire Station #1.

The station is located at 2730 E. Williams Field Road. A map of Gilbert's Fire Stations can be found here:

http://www.gilbertaz.gov/areamaps/firestations.cfm.

We will be joined by Tiger Den 13. I currently have the following Scouts who have RSVP'd:

Daniel and Benjamin
Tucker and Carson
Justin and Josh
Connor N. and Brayden N.
Tristan and Brayden A.
Matthew and Michael
Cayman and Caleb
Conner H.
Nathan
Trent

Please RSVP to tkeller@ij.org if you are not on this list and plan to make the tour.

The limit on the tour is 30 people. As it stands, we are under that maximum number, but it still would not hurt to carpool to limit the number of adults! I can take up to four additional Scouts in my minivan, so let me know if I can pick up your Scout!

Tigers At Last!!!

Best buddies, baked goods, and baskets on auction made for a terrific Blue and Gold Ceremony as our Scouts officially became TIGERS! Way to go boys! We are so thankful for Earle and Jon and their dedication to the boys and to making Den 13 such a fun and exciting place to learn and grow. We are also grateful to the parents and families who are committed to making Cub Scouts such a wonderful experience.
