Go See It: Mesa Police and Forensics Tour

On Monday, November 9, Tiger Den 13 has been invited to take a tour of the Mesa Police Headquarters and the Mesa Criminal Forensics Building. This will complete Requirement 2G toward the Tiger Rank, which is to Go See a Police or Fire Station.

The tour can only accommodate 20 visitors (we can probably squeeze one or two extra, but with 14 Tiger Scouts in our Den this means that no siblings can attend and that we may not be able to get every parent in the building--but there are two separate buildings, which means some parents can tour police headquarters and then we can switch so that the other parents can see the forensics building).

We hope that all of the Scouts can make it on this relative short notice. It will be a fun night. PLEASE RSVP to tkeller@ij.org no later than Monday, November 2 so that we know who is coming and how many to expect.

We will meet in front of the Forensic Services Building, 133 N. Morris, Mesa, AZ 85201 at 6pm--which is half an hour earlier than our normal Den Meeting time!

The tour of police headquarters will be about 30 minutes and the tour of the forensics building will be another 20 or 30 minutes. Our forensics tour will be led by the City of Mesa's Chief DNA Criminologist--so it will be like real life CSI!

If you are unable to make this Go See It, we will also try to schedule a tour of a fire station in the near future.

Its All Fun and Games

Tiger Den 13 was in charge of this month's Gathering Activity at our Pack Meeting. And our game was a HIT! The boys absolutely loved stealing tape from their friends' noses. One of the Bears from Den 11 seemed to have the game down to a science as he gleefully stole the tape from all of the other scouts. The boys also enjoyed the Jungle theme, walking along the cliff, ducking through the monkey forest, and running across the alligator swamp. Congrats to all of our Tigers on their many belt loops and to Josh Canode for being recognized as earning the most Belt Loops of the night!

Sports Night!

Coach Nail

Benjamin and Nathan

Boys of Den 13 and Den 11

Coach Kempiak

Mr. Glazier and Da Boys

Way to go Tigers! The boys of Den 13 split up to earn either their Soccer or Basketball Belt Loop. The boys demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship as they learned and practiced some basic soccer and basketball skills. They also had fun practicing their skills in an actual game.

Parents, no need to turn in paperwork for tonight's belt loop. Mr. Glazier will confirm in a separate e-mail that he has everybody's name and which belt loop they earned. If there are other belt loops that your Scout has earned there is still time to send Mr. Glazier or Mr. Kempiak an e-mail (deadline is this Friday) so that he can receive it at Monday's Pack Meeting. If you've already turned in paperwork, there is no need to send another e-mail.

Sports Belt Loop Night

As Mr. Glazier mentioned in his e-mail this morning, the Pack Meeting is going to be on October 26, which means we are moving our planned Sports Belt Loop night to this coming Monday, October 19.

We will gather at Discovery Park in Gilbert at 6:30pm.

Discovery Park is located at the Northwest corner of San Tan Village Parkway and Pecos Road.

Details about the park can be found here:

Your Scout will be able to choose between earning his Basketball Belt Loop or his Soccer Belt Loop. He won't have time to earn both. We will have what we need, but you are welcome to bring a soccer ball or basketball. We will end promptly at 7:30pm, but we certainly encourage parents and kids to hang out and play and talk if your schedule permits.

Please send an RSVP to either tkeller@ij.org or earle@morganshotelgroup.com so that we have a good idea who is coming. See you soon!

Guest Den Leader (And Guest Den Mates)

Bear Den 11's Leader Mr. Stork pulled double duty on Oct. 5

Tiger Den 13 graciously hosts Bear Den 11 in their room

Mrs. Stork leads a game of Akela Says

Gotcha! Akela didn't "say" lift that leg!

On Oct. 5, both of Tiger Den 13's leaders were unavailable. Mr. Glazier was out of town, and Mr. Kempiak was under the weather! However, because of the large overlap in the families that comprise Tiger Den 13 and Bear Den 11, it was not too difficult to find a willing and enthusiastic guest leader: Mr. Stork (and his wonderful bride Mrs. Stork). Considering that Bear Den 11's other leader was also out of town, this says a LOT about the Storks' character and their desire and willingness to SERVE others. Sounds like they really know how to "walk the walk" when it comes to living out the Cub Scout's core values. The two dens combined for an evening of fun and games. Looks like a GREAT time was had by the boys. Thanks Storks!

Oct. 12th Den Meeting

Monday Night we completed Den Activity 4D on page 66/67 (Tell it like it isn't). For those of you who were there Monday Night you may sign off on that as "Akela" for your son and I will sign it on the next Den Meeting. For those of you that could not make it, do not worry, as there will be another time that we will be able to do that activity and and it will get signed off then.

The boys had a great time. This was a fun game and though the idea wasn't to see if they get it wrong but to learn that when things get repeated over and over many times that things get forgotten or the words change. Either by accident or on purpose. To learn and teach the boys that gossip is not a good thing to do and to only and always be honest. Honesty is one of the Cub Scouts 12 Core Values. Please also talk to your scouts about honesty and not to gossip.

We also worked on Den Activity 2D on page 48/49 (Pledge of Allegiance). Though we were not able to complete it because we did not participate in a Flag Ceremony. I thought we should do this all together when we have close to or all Scouts attending. We will work on this together at a later Den Meeting.

At the end of the meeting the boys got to meet our Tortoise "Myrtle". An Arizona Desert Tortoise. They enjoyed this very much and really like seeing him walk around in the room and also like being able to touch him.

I thank you all for being on time so that we could start on time and end on time. Keep that up as it is important to stay on track.

P.S. For the Scouts that did not make it, PLEASE send me the Belt Loop/s and Pins that your Scout earned during these past few weeks since last Pack Meeting so that I can submit those for this coming Pack Meeting which is this Monday Night the 19th at 7:00pm. I will be submitting those no later than Thursday afternoon so please get those to me as soon as possible.

thanks
